Welcome to Union Day Gryphons Athletics

Union Day believes that many of the lessons learned in co-curricular activities are some of the most important lessons in life. When thoughtfully taught, students learn lessons in dependability, teamwork, motivation, and discipline to name a few.

Some of the country's most successful people have benefitted from participating in co-curricular activities. This athletic department believes in using co-curricular activities to educate the whole child to enhance and supplement their classroom education. It is our mission to work alongside our coaches to create an athletic department that the community will be proud of and our students will greatly benefit from.

The most successful student-athletes participate in multiple activities. By doing so, students increase the ability to work with a diverse group of people, develop into a well-rounded athlete, and drastically decrease overuse injuries. Our athletic administration, staff, and coaches are committed to providing a challenging, strong and cohesive environment where our student-athletes can reach their academic, athletic and personal potential

Our coaches will challenge our athletes to be the best version of themselves on and off the field or court. They are dedicated to encouraging students to engage in as many activities as possible. It is the goal of the athletic department and coaches to make decisions that ultimately benefit the students we serve. We will always put the needs of students first and help in their development and growth. The athletics department will also serve our coaches in many ways including professional development, mentoring, and encouragement.

By doing so, our coaches will be inspired to grow and develop their own vision within the mission of the athletic department. The success of the department and each sport will always be measured by the growth and development of our students above the wins and losses.

We expect our coaches, athletes and spectators to conduct themselves in a manner that shows respect and sportsmanship when we interact with opposing teams, coaches, fans and contest officials.

Physical and Concussion Forms

Student athletes at Union Day School must have current physicals and concussion statement forms filled out and signed each year. All forms need to be handed in to their coach or athletic director. No student is allowed to participate until their physical form is turned in.

It is a requirement that all of our athletes complete a sports physical and NC Concussion form. For your convenience, those documents are attached to this email. If your child participated in a sport from our previous school year know that physicals are good for 365 days - depending on when completed, your physical may need to be updated throughout the season. It is recommended though to have a new one done before the school year to eliminate any worries and it is stressed that you DO NOT wait until the last minute to complete this documentation.
