IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)
Union Day School is a Candidate School* for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). We are pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality,
challenging, international education that Union Day School believes is important for our students.
We currently offer an IB-based curriculum in grades 6-8 with 9th/10th grades being officially added in 2023. Our school plans to apply for the Diploma Programme (DP) for our 11th/12th grades in the coming year as well. Our students are asked to conduct open inquiry and real-life research both locally and globally in a constructivist-oriented approach. Teachers implement criteria based assessment established by the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme and focus on the IB Learner Profile (a list of student qualities) as well as global contexts (a lens through which to view content). Our 8th graders also participate in the IB MYP Community Project, a culminating project for our 8th grade students and is a way to showcase their commitment to service and action.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the PrimaryYears Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
